Shed Installation Diary - February 2018

In this months diary we take a look at some of the different options available to customers when constructing a garden shed including what base should you use and when is the best time to treat your garden building.

We also give you an insight in to the dedication of our log cabins installation team and show off some of the new services available from Sheds.co.uk

What Shed Base Options Are There?

Every garden shed needs to be constructed on a sturdy base to ensure they have a long life and are better protected against rot.

This month we have followed our installation teams across the country to show our customers real life examples of all the different shed bases available.

We start with the more traditional and extremely popular Wooden Shed Base. Wooden bases can be used on any surface including grass and slabs. The timbers are pressure treated to help prevent rot for up to 15 years and the corner spikes allow you to make a level surface for your shed on uneven ground. Wooden sheds are easy to put together and offer a more affordable alternative to a concrete base. Another reason why wooden bases are so popular with our customers is that our installation team will often construct this for you along with the shed when you choose installation. It is always best to make sure this is the case beforehand as it not guaranteed on all products.

If you're looking for more of a ground level base for your shed then a Plastic Pro Base is ideal for those on a strict budget. The pro base is made entirely from recycled plastic and comes with a membrane included as standard. The membrane allows water to drain away while preventing weeds and other harmful elements from damaging the underside of your shed. Construction in easy and is not included with our installation service so just like in the example shown you will need the base ready for when our installers arrive. Simply fit the base grids together on top of the membrane and fill will pebbles ensuring the surface is level. For more detailed instructions see our Plastic Pro Base Installation Guide.

A Slabbed Base is often one that can be found already in place in most gardens across the country and provided the slabs are still in good condition and level your new shed can be placed directly on top without the need for any additional base. You may wish to add preservative to your sheds bearers before you build the rest in order to give them as much protection from the elements as possible. The featured install shows how our team can construct a slab base in your garden if you require. Although it's possible to to use slabs for larger sheds we only recommend using slabs for buildings up to 3m in length.

For larger sheds and for the best base possible we recommend using a Concrete Base. Just like in the image shown our team will contact you before they arrive in order to assess your property. They will then prepare the area around your shed and construct the base for you, making the process completely stress free. Both base and shed installation services normally take just a single day to complete (weather permitting).

The final base option is becoming increasingly more popular in British gardens and it's the inclusion of a shed or in this case a summer house included as part of a raised decking area. A Decking Base offers the same protection as a wooden one but in a much more stylish way. Our installation team will construct the building wherever you wish it to be situated enabling you to create your ideal patio space.

Whatever base you choose for your shed our install team have plenty of experience to ensure you're 100% happy with your new garden shed and you can rest assured that you will get the full lifetime of the product.

Pre Painted Shed

Top Tip - Pre Paint Your Garden Building

A great way to get a neat finish on your summer house or shed is to pre paint the various panels before our installation team arrive. This way you can make sure you don't get any paint where it's not wanted and if it's going up against a fence you won't need to squeeze down the side to paint those hard to reach sections. Once constructed you can go round with a brush and simply touch up any little blemishes that have been caused during construction.

Please Note: Do not pre paint or treat log cabin timbers before construction as this can cause problems in joining the tongue and groove connections.

Workshop Installations

Our install teams have been busy this month putting together a number of these larger garden sheds that make the ideal workshops for carpenters and gardeners alike. For those lucky enough to have the required space to facilitate a workshop shed they can offer a place to get creative in your garden. They are just as easy to put together as a regular size shed and include many of the same features. The installation images above demonstrate the use of both concrete and plastic bases both of which are perfectly suitable for the job.

Log Cabin Installations

Our install teams will never leave a job unfinished if they can possibly avoid it and just incase you need any further evidence here is an image of a Hartwood 4m x 3m Burford Log Cabin installation taken earlier this month.

The team worked well in to the evening to make sure the job was complete and with good reason...

The customer had made a special request to incorporate his new hot tub in to the building. Can you spot it? It's always best to let us know in advance if you have a similar request so our team can plan and let you know if any additional bearers etc.. are required to complete the build.

With the current weather conditions this customers home will be feeling more like a ski lodge than an English garden.
